According to the most recent count by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority,

there are 53,195 homeless people in Los Angeles County.

With only 14,496 shelter beds available,

38,699 homeless men, women, and children in Los Angeles have nowhere to sleep

other than on sidewalks, in doorways, and on bus benches.

Their problem is our problem.

With your support, we can do something meaningful to change

the dark and lonely world of the homeless in our community.

Reaching Out California is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization

that reaches out to homeless people in Greater Los Angeles,

one person at a time.

We would really appreciate your help.

OUR GOALS

ADOPTING A HOMELESS PERSON OR FAMILY

  • The core purpose of Reaching Out California is to turn around the lives of homeless people, one person at a time.
  • If you would like to be directly involved in saving the life of a homeless person or family, please let us know what you are able to give:  the temporary use of a rental unit or residence; medical or dental care; occupational counseling or support; or anything else you think would serve the needs of a homeless person.

SHARING THE WARMTH

  • The vast majority of homeless people in our community are not just without a home; they are without a change of clean clothes.
  • We will gratefully accept your donations of wearable clothes and shoes and give them to homeless people who, in many cases, will be wearing clean clothes for the first time in weeks, if not longer.

FEEDING THE HUNGRY

  • The homeless rely on the kindness of strangers for each meal.  While charitable organizations and individuals alike generously provide food to the more visible among our homeless population, other homeless people live in the margins of society and go hungry on a regular basis.
  • We will gratefully accept your food donations -- including leftovers -- and make meals of the food for the homeless men, women, and children we encounter.

CLEANLINESS AND HYGEINE

  • Their faces and bodies are soiled from the soot of the outdoors and the general inaccessibility of water to clean themselves, much less bathe.  Their teeth have been neglected.
  • We will gratefully accept and distribute to the homeless in our community the hygiene materials or kits you donate for distribution:  sanitizing wipes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc.

DRESSING FOR SUCCESS

  • The homeless seldom own the clothing that will allow them to look respectable at a job interview.
  • If you own dress clothes that haven't been worn in a while for one reason or another -- a dress shirt or blouse, dress pants, dress shoes, a dress or skirt, a jacket, or maybe a suit or two -- we will find a homeless person who will give your closet-bound clothes new life, and who will feel like a brand new person wearing them.

FURNISHING A HOME

  • When fate smiles on a homeless person like Dona, and he or she is able to leave behind an unthinkably uncomfortable life on the streets for a home with a roof, the household amenities most of us take for granted must come from somewhere.  Each time a homeless person is provided with shelter -- whether by PATH, Reaching Out California, or another charity or agency -- there will be a recurring need to fill the new home with furniture and other items of basic convenience.
  • Please consider giving your surplus to Reaching Out California.

Thank you for your generous tax-deductible DONAtion

Your thoughtful gift will enable us to provide food, shelter, clothing, and other forms of relief to more homeless men, women, and children.  Thank you very much for your support.
